     <summary>On January 12, 2010 a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, followed by several powerful aftershocks, struck off the western coast of Haiti, causing buildings to collapse in Port au Prince and chaos as people fled the damage. It is estimated that 3 million people have been affected and 200,000 left homeless. The Red Cross response was immediate, today hundreds of local volunteers continue to work around the clock to assist thousands in need or humanitarian aid. The Canadian Red Cross has mobilized to support the work of our sister National Society the Haitian Red Cross. In addition to financial assistance and emergency supplies the Red Cross has deployed 12 trained emergency response workers. Canadian Red Cross continues to send additional supports to Haiti as needed.</summary>

Given their daily struggle for survival, the earthquake victims now face an even grimmer future. Communications are extremely difficult and accurate information is still scarce, it is clear that the consequences are severe and many children are among the victims. Christian Children's Fund of Canada (CCFC) is urging Canadians to support the relief efforts in Haiti. We are joining forces with a partner on the ground in Haiti and are currently accepting donations on behalf of the Haitian earthquake victims.</summary>

Canada is fortunate that emergency preparedness experts at all levels of government have well-organised, definitive plans, in which The Salvation Army plays an important part. But, despite the armies of trained personnel ready to go into action, very often the best we can do is to mitigate the effects of a disaster, and deal with its aftermath. Whenever disaster strikes, the presence of Salvation Army personnel is expected. Save the Children's emergency response team is already on the ground and providing relief to children and families in extreme need. Our emergency response team is working with local staff to overcome logistical challenges in getting earthquake relief to children and families in extreme need. Save the Children's current relief efforts also include organizing the distribution of tents, medicine, and toiletries to families.</summary>

     <summary>Y&#233;le Haiti is a grassroots movement that builds global awareness for Haiti while helping to transform the country through programs in education, sports, the arts and environment. Y&#233;le's community service programs include food distribution and mobilizing emergency relief. With little support available for vulnerable families, Y&#233;le Haiti distributes food to those in need throughout the slums of Port-au-Prince and mobilizes emergency relief in response to natural disasters and humanitarian crises.</summary>
